The Wilderness Technology Alliance (WTA) is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides character and technology education through service learning. It operates a low-cost self-sustaining statewide technology service-learning program involving community centers and school districts. Students learn technology skills in the classroom and then apply them service-learning internships at the WTA center or at “WildTech” programs in their school. This primarily involves refurbishing computers and providing them with training classes to schools, low-income families, and non-profit organizations. In keeping with its mission, the WTA wants to create a Community Empowerment Center in White Center addressing the high unemployment rate, poverty, and lack of affordable technology and training in this very low-income community.
