A Home Within is a national organization addressing the emotional needs of foster youth. In 18 communities across the country we match foster youth with therapists that provide services on a pro-bono basis. Our clinicians are experienced therapists who commit to seeing a foster youth for as long as it takes, sometimes many years. Pro-bono treatment continues even if the youth turns 18 and ages out of the foster care system.
A Home Within seeks to heal the trauma of chronic loss experienced by foster children and to improve the foster care system by building positive lasting relationships and continuous connections through direct services, professional training, and public awareness.
Our home office is in San Francisco. In the San Francisco Bay Area, A Home Within also sponsors a photography program for foster youth, Fostering Art. Fostering Art gives foster youth the chance to explore and document their inner and outer worlds through art and the written word, while developing life skills and strong ties with peers and the community.
By addressing the needs of foster youth, who often end up homeless, in the justice system or living below the poverty line, we are an anti-poverty organization. By addressing the underlying emotional causes, instead of the symptoms, we are giving tools to foster youth to raise themselves out of poverty.
